The second half of our international special Acoustic Rooms was party to South Korean band Billy Carter who told me how polluted their country is – these guys are bold and I can’t wait to share them with you.
It’s true that Billy Carter have a big love for our country after the band formed while they were making memories on a one year exploration of the UK. They enjoyed making music together so much that once they returned to South Korea the band continued to make music.
The three-piece sees Jiwon Kim lead the pack with her strong feminist-like vocals steering the crowd away from their quiet drinks in the bar of Rescue Rooms. Jiwon has such poise that we haven’t seen in UK bands recently.
From bands I’ve seen or heard of recently women are either singing backup, playing an instrument or alongside other women. (Correct me if you think I’m wrong and give me some examples I would love to hear more female led bands). Billy Carter brings women to the Blues genre with fight and passion.
Alongside Jiwon are Jina and Hyon Joon who both bring a foreign passion to music. When performing together Billy Carter produce a rock sound that sounds electric. What’s better is that this band are rising the ranks in their own country (South Korea) and it looks like England may be hooked on them too.
If you have missed their UK show in Nottingham then fear not! Billy Carter are working on their first full-length album, which is scheduled to be released in November.
