After Tinder, Match.com, Plenty of Fish and other dating sites decrease in popularity, we see the rise of ‘Sugar Daddy’ sites including Seeking Arrangement which highlight a new style of online dating.
Seeking Arrangement has over 5 million users who use the free site. It introduces young females (sugar babies) to rich men (sugar daddies) who post their income and ideas for paid dates.
Seeking Arrangement claims their site is not prostitution as “Sugar Daddies have on-going relationships, not transactions”. The male is a sponsor, paying the sugar baby for company rather than for sex.
“SEEKING ARRANGEMENT CLAIMS 56% OF UNIVERSITY SUGAR BABIES COME FROM MIDDLE AND UPPER-MIDDLE CLASS FAMILIES”
Male sugar babies are also on the rise. “There’s less judgment for young boys who get paid to date older women due to ‘lad culture’” says sugar baby Lola, a student who uses the site regularly.
Seeking Arrangement claims 56% of university sugar babies come from middle and upper-middle class families. The money they earn is from the sugar daddies disposable income meaning there is no guilt with the transaction.
With over 130K female sugar babies on the site, it’s clear to see why this form of online dating is on the rise.
