“Friendships to me are like petals on a flower; together they’re beautiful and make people smile but eventually some petals fall off and drift off in the wind and go their own ways.” When I was at high school I was part of a friendship group with six other girls. We were friends for many years and when I was with them I had the greatest times.
Unfortunately from getting older and moving to separate sixth forms and colleges we lost a few members on the way. Two of the group moved to separate sixth forms and we only see one of them now and the third girl decided on a change of scene and doesn’t follow the same path as my friends and I do. Which leaves us with the fab four also known as the peacocks (named after a funny inside joke).
The four of us include Katie pictured bottom right, Jazz – centre and Lucy – right. The four of us have known each other from the beginning of high school but I didn’t join the group until the end of year 9. Now our bond is stronger than ever and I’m so grateful to be surrounded by some truly amazing friends.
You make think this is a random post but I think it’s really important to be surrounded by people you love and those who love you! The bond I share with these three is truly unconditional and they make me all soppy!! Surround yourself with cheer-leaders not fear-leaders and make sure there is as little as possible of negative energy around you.
I often find that when I’m feeling sad I need to see a friendly face, but sometimes distance can be a barrier and meeting up isn’t always possible. With that in mind it’s really great to talk to people online and/or text and ring them. I love speaking to my friends even if I can’t see them. I imagine next year will be tough, we leave to go to four different university’s across England.
Jazz hopes to study Art, Lucy hopes to study Law, Katie hopes to study English I’m hoping to study Drama with Media. I know that we will never be as close as we are now and everything will change. That’s why right now we have to cherish the moments we have.
As it’s the summer holidays right now make sure you make the best memories with the time you have. You don’t have to spend much money or do crazy activities. We went on a picnic in a local park for goodness sakes! Whether that’s just chilling watching films at someones house, having a picnic or ordering take out.
It doesn’t cost much to meet up and enjoy other people’s company. Lucy has recently passed her driving test giving us so many more opportunities to spend time with each other that we haven’t been able to do before. I have only just turned 17 and can’t start my driving lessons until my arm is better (see the I Broke My Arm post for more info on that crazy day!) but Lucy can take us anywhere and everywhere!
My favourite thing about travelling with the girls is the amazing playlists we listen to in the car. Our favourite group song at the moment is probably Dreaming of You by The Coral or Creepin Up The Backstairs by The Fratellis. We love singing along as loud as we can and obviously, car dancing (at a safe level, duh!)
I’m so lucky to have the friends I do which leads me on to say… To my dearest moonshines: put yourself in a situation where you know you will be your happiest. Make the best out of every moment, look up, laugh loud, talk big, keep the colour in your cheek and the fire in your eye, adorn your person, maintain your health, your beauty and find your spirit animals!
